If you are new to China's ancient art and science of Feng Shui – and not sure where to start - here are some suggestions for some easy and basic things to do around your home to raise the energetic vibration. No previous Feng Shui experience necessary!

Things You'll Need:

  • Your intention for a new cycle
  • New welcome mat
  • Garden clippers
  • Bird seed and nectar

Let us ring in a new cycle (or an introduction to this art and science) with a little Feng Shui nudge! These basic suggestions extend their hand to support your first steps into a new cycle. Let me encourage you to begin with a willingness to create a greater energetic connection to your home and work space. Where to begin? Right here...

  2. Step 2

As we begin, this is an auspicious time to take an observant walk within your home. Start at the entry and meander into each room, down every hallway, up the stairs, around, and out to the garden. What do you see? How does it feel? Are there certain rooms you love to be in? Make a note of what you love and sprinkle some of that energy to the rest of the house.

  3. Step 3

You have heard me say before how important the entrance to your home is. The Mouth of Chi is where energy enters your life; so begin honoring your space there. Be sure the area is clean (Feng Shui likes clean) and welcoming with bright light to illumine the way. Unless you’ve changed the welcome mat recently, do it now with gratitude and an intention for every good thing you can imagine (and much more!) to find you.
If you enjoy a wreath on your entry door, use a material other than dried – silk is lovely. Trim bushes and trees blocking the view from your windows – we want to see those opportunities coming. Clean the birdbath and feeders, and stock up on seed and nectar.

  4. Step 4

The foyer will want to be tended to also. Remove furniture and clutter that might be keeping the front door from opening all the way. We don’t want our knocking good-fortune to inhale and squeeze through the door sideways. Swing open the door, these opportunities are BIG!

  5. Step 5

Take a peek in the pantry. If it has been a while since you cleaned there, empty the contents and put back only edibles that are fresh and future-dated. Do the same in the medicine cabinet tossing all medications (prescription and over-the-counter) lingering beyond the shelf-life (Check with your pharmacist as to how to dispose of medications properly.). We move into this cycle fresh, leaving yesterday’s nourishment and remedies behind.

  6. Step 6

Look under the beds. Don’t be afraid. The only thing you want to find is a clear space for Chi to circle around you as you sleep. If you find shoes, boxes of who-knows-what, or a troupe of dust bunnies your work is cut out for you. Empty the space and vacuum. (If you are pregnant, leave under-the-bed as is to clear and clean after the baby arrives.)

  7. Step 7

How about the garage? Bad? I know. It’s difficult to resist putting all the odds and ends that we aren’t ready to let go of in that big space. We add as much horizontal surface there as we possibly can. Let me tell you, it may be possible to hide clutter from Aunt Eileen in the garage but not from your Feng Shui experience. Here’s an idea, very week when you roll your garbage and recycle cans to the street, drop some little neglected, unused thing in with it. Over the weeks this will make an energetic difference, painlessly.

  8. Step 8

As you move through your home placing these Feng Shui cures and enhancements be conscious of your thoughts. These changes will be far more powerful if you set an intention for your Greater Good. Here’s an example: “I am (We are) consciously replacing our worn door mat with a clean, new door mat. Our intention is to sincerely welcome all the good opportunities we can imagine (and even more) to our lives. I (We) set an intention for great happiness to all who live or visit here.” Being aware of your thoughts while making Feng Shui changes will add umph (i.e. power) to your action.

Happy New Adventure to you! I hope you found these 'Start with The Basics!' ideas helpful. May this tended-to home honor you, and every One, and every thing entering from now on. Actually... let it be a blessing to all whom so much as gaze upon it!
In gratitude and with an intention to serve.
