First select your weapon of choice, there are many types of rust remover products out there, CLR, Oxystrip, Oxi-Clean, the list goes on. I recommend Oxy-Strip, but this is a product you would need to order, whereas CLR and Oxi-Clean can be found in stores.
Step2
Next create a solution in water from your rust remover product, make sure to double check instructions for mixing potency, you can vary this a bit from the instructions, depending on the amount of rust you have to remove. You will only need enough solution to cover the tin, you could even do 1/2 the amount and clean one side, then flip it and do the other, the choice is yours!
Step3
Once your tin is submerged, give it a few minutes of soaking, and then check to see if any of the rust has loosened, if so break it loose and return the tin to the solution so it can continue working on the freshly exposed rust, repeat this as necessary, when complete, throughly rinse your tin before use. good luck, and happy cleaning!
Tips & Warnings
If you mix a strong solution it may be a good idea to use latex gloves.
Some Rust removers are stronger than others, double check your label for any added safety instructions.
If you rinse the solution down the drain in your house, rinse your drain well afterwards.
