The only way to do this is to either install a windows xp emulator on a vista computer (I strongly recommend against this. These are third party applications which are highly unstable), or to create a dual boot between vista and xp

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Windows xp CD
  • Your vista recovery CD
  • Be able to understand advanced computer language discussed in this article
  1. Step 1

back up all of your data. This is essential because you will be formatting (erasing) your computer.

  2. Step 2

Start up your computer with the windows xp CD in the drive. Enter the CMOS and change the boot priority to boot with CD first. Install windows xp, except delete all partitions. I recommend formatting your hard drive to make 60% available for your vista partition and 40% for your xp partition. Once that is completed, install windows xp on your 40% partition.

  3. Step 3

Next, start up your computer with the windows vista CD and install it on the 60% partition you created earlier. Once this is completed, when you start up, it will ask you in a black screen which operating system you want to boot with, windows xp or windows vista. In essence, you will have 2 computers in 1. one computer with windows xp and the other with vista. This will allow you to use your older programs as well as your works program. Once windows xp is installed, you'll no doubt be needing drivers for that laptop. They can be found on the recovery disk that came with your computer. Simply go into the device manager and install all missing drivers from the disk. Then you'll be ready to go.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember to install windows xp FIRST
  • Back up all important data before proceeding.
