Sell Books on the Internet

As a way to earn extra cash and de-clutter at the same time, selling your used books online is a winner. The process is simple, and it only takes seconds to list your books by entering the ISBN numbers. Recent textbooks, non fiction and some popular fiction all sell decently well in general. Some book resellers find books at yard sales and library book sales and resell them online for a profit. Here's how to sell books on the internet.

From Quick Guide: Earn Money at Home
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Register as a bookseller on one or several online book sites. See links under resources, below, for Cash 4 Books, Amazon and Half.com. You may wish to register for all three as there are benefits to each.

  2. Step 2

List your books by entering them by ISBN numbers, which you can find above the bar code or on the copyright page for older books.

  3. Step 3

Monitor your seller account and email so that you know when your books sell. Keep track of which books sell and your sale prices as well as postage costs so you can track what is profitable.

  4. Step 4

Package, label and ship all books promptly. With the ability to print postage online, you can literally have your books in the mail only hours after they sell. Prompt service is key to repeat customers and a good sellers' reputation.

  5. Step 5

Shop at yard sales, school book sales, library book sales and flea markets for used books to sell on the internet. Once you have an idea for what earns money, you can spend some cash building up an inventory. Avoid outdated textbooks and cheap fiction novels, which are a waste of money.

  6. Step 6

Earn money for selling books, but leave the order shipping and other time-consuming tasks to others. Become a half.com associate through commission junction and an Amazon.com associate. Market books in your blogs, websites and other online formats. Include your associates links in your forum signatures and email signature to increase clicks.

Tips & Warnings
  • Trade used books with little resale value and get books you like in return. Check out Paper Back Swap, BookMooch and Book Crossings.
  • Don't invest a ton of money in an inventory that won't sell. Start slow and get a feel for what will sell and what won't.

on 1/21/2009 How do you know what books would be worth buying up at sales? I know that current text books are good ones, but other than that how do you know?

on 3/20/2008 I need to take this advice to heart. I have, literally, huge boxes of books I can no longer fit on my huge bookcase shelves. 5 stars.

on 2/28/2008 Amazon.com is a great place to sell used books at, especially college course books. During the beginning of each semester I have friends who sell tons of books through Amazon and make tons of money. I like buying used books on there too, great prices, cool descriptions, and great experiences are the only thing's i've found.
