Things You'll Need:
- Multi-colored Hemp in 20lb

Step 1
A Josephine knot is like a double knot that works great in creating a lacy effect and can be used instead of beads.
You will need 4 strands of fibers secured with a knot. Make a loop with the left strands with the working strands under the loop. (Like a small b with the working strands under the loop). -
Step 2
Place the right strands over the loop, then slide the right strands behind the left working strands.
Slide the strands ends over the top left strands and weave the strand diagonally across the loop. Tighten the knot evenly. -
Step 3
The next knotting technique is the half hitch and they are small sideways E’s that create a corkscrew effect. If you use these in different combinations you can create endless designs. The half hitch is easy, but the pattern of alternating is what gives it the advance look.
You need a single wrap strand and two strands for the middle. Take the one single wrap strand and place it over the two middle strands go under the back and over the beginning of the wrap strand. -
Step 4
You can wrap the stitch on one of the strands in the middle, or you can do one strand then the other, and then back to the original.
-
Step 5
The last one, alternating square knots is the one that can make the lacy-style look. This technique requires 8 strands and they get divide into 2 groups.
You need to know how to make a square knot. Make a half knot, with the left strand passing in front of the middle strands (or drone strand) and the right passing behind, so that the drone strands are enclosed in a loop. Make another half knot on the other side to make one complete square knot.
In each group, tie a square knot with the two outer strands over the two center strands.
