How to Become An Affiliate Marketer

An affiliate marketer, or reseller, is a person who is authorized to sell someone else's products. Most people do this as a means of supplementing their existing incomes. There is, however, a significant number of affiliate marketers who engage solely in this activity. You don't have to have any products of your own, or even a website, to generate an income using affiliate marketing. It's possible to build an affiliate business through email marketing alone.

• A website that you control or a list of prospects.
• Patience.

1. Apply and submit your application to the company of your choice. Please be sure to read the "Terms and Conditions" at each site.
2. Wait for your approval email. This usually happens within 24 hours. However, it can take up to a week.
3. After receiving your approval email, return to the chosen company's website and set up your account information. They'll need to know your website URL (if you have one), how you'd like to be paid, etc. Take the time to do this now, so you don't forget.
4. Now it's time to begin choosing the products you would like to market. Try to choose products that complement, not compete, with any products you might already be marketing at your website. If you don't have a website, choose products using any criteria you like. For instance, some people market only food products like wine or cheese. Others market only books. While still others market health and wellness products. It's up to you. If you choose based on your interests, you'll be able to really get behind your products. Consequently, your enthusiasm will come through in your ads.
5. Now you will be required to get approval for each product you'd like to promote. Do this one product at a time. It's important to note that you will not be approved for every product. If you aren't approved, and it's a product you really want to promote, re-apply in a month or so. You may get a different result.
6. Once you receive your individual product approvals you may begin promoting. Simply decide whether you'd like to use text links, articles, or banner ads then copy and paste your linking code to your website or email.

Tips & Warnings

• I advise promoting only a couple of products to begin with until you are absolutely sure what you're doing. It's easy to feel overwhelmed at first. So start small and work your way up. This is especially important if you are running an email marketing campaign. You don't want to take the chance of antagonizing your list! Once lost, a prospect is impossible to regain. Always treat your list like gold.
• Patience is the word of the day! As with anything else in life, good things are worth waiting for. Don't expect to see overnight results. Many people quit far too soon because they have false expectations. You must allow your efforts a chance to take hold. It's said that a prospect needs to see an offer an average of three to five times before they commit to buying. Don't expect to throw a couple of ads online and become a millionaire overnight. It just isn't going to happen that way!
