How to Quickly Reach Your Floor in an Elevator Without Stops

This is a great trick, but it’s not a very considerate thing to do. These steps describe a button sequence that allows you to take an elevator directly to your destination floor without stopping for additional passengers, no matter how many people are waiting to ride between you and your destination floor.

• Elevator

1. Get in the elevator. To be safe, make sure no one is watching you if there are other people in the elevator with you.

2. Locate the button for your floor and the button to close the elevator doors. You must press these two buttons simultaneously and hold them down for five seconds.

3. Ride the elevator to your destination floor. Even if people on other floors are waiting to ride in this car, it will roll right past them.

Tips & Warnings

• This is a great thing to know for use in true emergencies. If you’re going into labor, for instance, it’s a great time to pull this trick out. Otherwise, it’s not very nice.
• If you get caught doing this by a security guard or some other authority figure, you could get in some degree of trouble.
• This trick will not necessarily work on all elevators, but it does work on all Otis elevators. Otis is the largest worldwide manufacturer of elevator equipment, so there’s a good chance that it will work in most places. Some other elevators do not have door close buttons at all.
