Step 1
First, take note of the basics: Are you traveling to an area that requires immunizations? Are you pulling kids out of school? What about health insurance while you are away? Some countries have socialized health care and will treat you regardless, so check if you will need it.
-
Step 2
Assess your finances. Will you be transferring accounts overseas or banking electronically with your current institution, or both? Setting up automatic payment for your home bills will allow you to manage your household while you are away (assuming you have a household to manage).
-
Step 3
If you are packing up your household, plan on giving notice to your landlord or renting out your home while you are away. Appointing a responsible loved one or hiring a property management is most helpful for this.
-
Step 4
Take care of plants and pets. Give the plants to loved ones and learn if you can take your pet with you. If not, you will need to find a temporary home for Fido.
