How to Solar Bake a Chocolate Cake

Bake a chocolate cake on the porch and impress your company.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • solar oven
  • 1 1/2 c. sugars
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. butter - softened
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powders
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 oz. unsweetened chocolates (melted and cooled)

  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 c. sugars
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 oz. unsweetened chocolates (melted and cooled)
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powders
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. butter - softened
  1. Step 1

    Grease a 13-by-9-by-2-inch glass baking dish.

  2. Step 2

    Preheat solar oven.

  3. Step 3

    Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.

  4. Step 4

    Cream butter and sugar in another bowl.

  5. Step 5

    Add eggs, beating after each one.

  6. Step 6

    Blend in vanilla and melted chocolate.

  7. Step 7

    Combine baking soda and 1 c. ice water. Mix well.

  8. Step 8

    Add dry ingredients, alternating with ice water mixture, to creamed mixture.

  9. Step 9

    Beat well.

  10. Step 10

    Pour batter into baking pan.

  11. Step 11

    Bake in solar oven for 1 1/2 hours or until done.

Tips & Warnings
  • The best time to bake is in the middle of a sunny day from about 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
