Things You'll Need:
- Parent addresses
- Parent telephone numbers
- Sign-up sheets
-
Step 1
Create a sign-up sheet that is posted on your classroom door to have parents sign up to come in and help you keep the class in order. Parents often do not see exactly what their children are doing in class, and having them come in and volunteer to help will give them the opportunity to experience your class first-hand.
-
Step 2
Send out a letter to the parents on a monthly basis. Include in this letter what your class has learned and what they will be learning next. At the bottom of the letter, have a pull-off sheet that parents can bring in the following week to volunteer to come in and help you out.
-
Step 3
Call the parents of the children in your class to directly ask them to sign up for one week a month to help during your class time. It's hard to tell a Sunday School teacher "no" when you are talking person-to-person.
-
Step 4
Post your parental involvement needs in your church bulletin or newsletter. This will show parents that your preacher and other church members are on-board with helping you to get volunteers for your class, since the call for help is in a church-wide publication.
