Giving a girl an invaluable gift of positive mentorship is to give her one of the best gifts in the world. Girl Scouts have been meeting since 1912. But without adult volunteers acting as Girl Scout leaders, there wouldn't be this type of nurturing environment for girls. April 22, Girl Scout Leader's Day, is set aside for appreciating adult volunteers who make a difference in children's lives.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide on the event to celebrate Girl Scout Leader's Day. In the tradition of decision making within the Girl Scout ring, take suggestions from the entire troop on how best to celebrate Girl Scout Leader's Day. Each girl should have an opportunity to share ideas in this planning step. After all the suggestions are recorded, take a vote.

    • 2

Schedule a simple tea party. During the party, plans can be made and jobs assigned for each girl in the troop. Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the first troop of Girl Scouts, loved tea parties. If the Leader's Day celebration is to be a surprise, keep the tea party a secret from the leader.

    • 3

Put together a Kaper chart of jobs and responsibilities for the day of celebration. Girl Scout troops use what is called a Kaper chart for listing specific things to be done. It is a table or grid that shows each job that the project will require, along with names of who will be doing it. This system of assigning Kapers to each girl ensures that all of the girls are included and responsible for at least one thing.

    • 4

Plan how to get the Girl Scout leader to the activity. On the day of the celebration, assign one of the girls' parents to pick up the leader and bring her to the designated place. This day is all about showing appreciation to the leader, so try to have all tasks taken care of so she won't have to do much. If you like, buy a plaque to give to her in celebration of Girl Scout Leader's Day.

    • 5

Take pictures throughout the planning process, the tea party and the actual event. They can be posed pictures or action photos of the day while you are celebrating Girl Scout Leader's Day.

    • 6

Design a troop photo album or website commemorating the celebration. Develop or upload pictures, make decorative pages and bring them all together in a photo album or website. Then, give it to the troop leader as a memento of her day.
