How to Recycle Aluminum Cans Neatly
Recycling is great for the environment and recycling aluminum is a great way to make a little pocket change if you live near a recycling center that pays you for these materials. But storing your used aluminum cans can be messy and take up a lot of space. Follow these steps to recycle cans neatly, cleanly and in a space-conscious manner. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Can crusher (optional)
- Dish towel
- Trash can
- Appropriately sized trash bags
- Sink

Rinse each empty can thoroughly immediately after use in the sink. This will wash away all of the sugar and other mess that can attract bugs and other pests.

Shake the can out to remove as much liquid as possible. Wipe the outside of the can dry with a dish towel.

Crush the can flat. First squeeze the sides of the can to make it easier to crush. Then flatten it with a can crusher or by stomping it on the ground.

Keep the flattened cans in a lined trash can reserved exclusively for aluminum. Take the cans to the recycling center as soon as the bag becomes full.

Tips & Warnings
Call around to find an aluminum recycling center that pays for aluminum. Be sure to ask for their rates, because one center may pay more than others.
If you stomp your cans flat, do it outdoors on concrete or another hard surface. This can damage your interior floors, particularly linoleum floors.
