Homedics Paraffin Bath Instructions

HoMedics makes a paraffin bath treatment for home use. Paraffin baths have been used for years to soften skin on the hands, elbows and feet. The skin is dipped in the wax repeatedly, then the wax is allowed to cool. When the wax is pulled from the skin, dead cells come off with it, giving the skin a softer, youthful appearance and feel. The warm wax opens the pores and allows oils to penetrate the skin more deeply.

Setting Up the Machine

The HoMedics spa treatment comes with instructions, disposable plastic hand covers, and two lbs. of wax. Place the two lbs. of wax in the machine and plug it in. Turn on the machine. The red indicator light will glow and turn green when the melting process is complete. This takes about two hours. The green light indicates the wax is ready for use. The wax level should be between the min and max lines on the unit and never closer than 1 1/2 inches from the top of the device.

Test the Temperature

When the wax is melted, test the temperature of the wax on the wrist area. If too warm, allow to cool for a short period, then test again. Never test the temperature of the wax while the red light is on. This is the melting mode and the unit and wax will be extremely hot.

Ready for Use

Wash the hands, elbows and feet and dry thoroughly. Lotion can be applied to the area before dipping. This allows easier removal of the wax and a better moisturizing effect. If doing both hands and feet, start with the feet. Dip one foot into the melted wax bath and pull out quickly. Wait about 3 seconds or until the shiny wax turns dull, then dip again. Repeat this up to 10 times. Wrap the feet in plastic bags and cover with a towel. This traps the heat and helps to soften the skin. Next, dip the hands. Dipping should be done in a quick in and out motion with the fingers spread. Dip the hands repeatedly as with the feet, up to 10 times. Allow the wax to harden between dipping. Put the plastic gloves on over the hands and lay a towel over the hands. Dip each elbow several times, allowing the wax to harden between dipping. Turn off the machine and unplug it, allowing it to cool. Leave the wax on for 15 to 30 minutes. Removing the wax too soon will give a less desirable result. When the wax is completely cooled, remove the plastic covers. Some wax will come away with the plastic. Any remaining wax can be pulled off the skin. Use a moisturizer immediately after removing the wax because the pores are open and able to absorb it more readily.

Storage

Turn off the unit and allow the wax to cool overnight. To remove the wax block, press on one side of the cooled wax, forcing it to pop up. Remove the wax block, wipe the unit with a damp cloth and store. Never submerge the unit in water or fill with water. Do not scrape inside of the unit because that will cause damage. If wax is difficult to remove, heat the unit for 10 to 15 minutes first. Never attempt to pour hot wax from the unit.
