Things You'll Need:

Step 1
Diamond quality: A man diamond wedding ring could have a very high grade diamond, this would put an extravagant price tag on the ring. Most of us could not afford such a ring, this is what makes most buyers believe that a men's diamond wedding ring would be beyond their reach. The truth is that you can get a diamond men's ring that looks almost as good as the best ring at a modest price. This is because there are medium grade diamonds that look a lot like the better grades to the naked eye. These are genuine diamonds, not manmade substitutes. Give these diamonds a look and do not presume that all good looking men's diamond rings would be very expensive.

Step 2
Diamond size and price: Like most other gemstones, diamonds are priced per carat (weight unit). However, the price (per carat) of a diamond increases steeply as the size of the diamond increases. This would mean that if you paid the same price per carat, a diamond men's wedding ring with 2 half carat diamonds would get you better quality diamonds as compared to, a man diamond wedding ring that had a single diamond weighing 1 carat. Take advantage of this when selecting a design for your diamond man wedding ring. For example, choose a design where 4 diamonds of quarter carat weight each (about 4mm rounds) are firmly set in a gold ring. The diamonds would have a much better quality as compared to a single diamond weighing 1 carat.

Step 3
Diamond shapes: The fact that fancy shaped diamonds carry a premium price, is not relevant to men's diamond wedding rings. Most men's diamond rings would use round or square (princess cut diamonds), these happen to be the standard cuts for diamonds. Heart, pear and marquise shaped diamonds are considered to be fancy cut diamonds. Choose a diamond ring design that has square or round diamonds, you will get best value for your money in terms of price per carat and quality.

Step 4
Colored diamonds: For our discussion colored diamonds will refer to naturally colored diamonds, enhanced diamonds will be discussed in the next paragraph. Almost every men's diamond wedding ring that you see will have a white diamond, however white is not the only natural color in which diamonds are found. Champagne colored diamonds, pink diamonds, green diamonds, brown diamonds and even black diamonds are naturally found. There are two main reasons for the predominance of white diamonds in men's wedding rings. The first is that most men do not prefer to wear diamonds in any color besides white. The second reason is the high prices that naturally colored diamonds demand.

Step 5
Enhanced diamonds: When you talk of colored diamonds for your man diamond wedding ring, they could be naturally colored diamonds or, could be color enhanced. You could have a majestic 1 carat blue-green enhanced diamond set in your man diamond wedding ring. An enhanced diamond is a basically a genuine diamond mined from the earth. A specially researched treatment is done to bring about a color change in the diamond. This color change is permanent and does not affect the hardness of the diamond. There is one interesting thing that you will notice about enhanced diamonds, they always seem to be very moderately priced even for large sizes that could reach a 1 carat size. But we just read above that, large sized diamonds can be very expensive. The reason why enhanced colored diamonds are moderately priced even for large sizes is because, manufacturers generally use low quality diamonds for this treatment. The original diamond looks very cloudy and dull, the color enhancement adds glitter and color to the originally drab diamond. Interesting color enhanced diamonds for a man diamond wedding ring would be, brown, blue-green or even black. Do not expect too much flash and glitter from a black diamond though, you will be disappointed if you do.

Step 6
Diamond substitutes: Why would anyone want to use a diamond substitute for a ring. As the name suggests, this is not a genuine diamond and could be a synthetic or natural gemstone. Buyers sometimes prefer to have a diamond men's wedding ring but, find the price tag to be beyond their budget. A diamond substitute in such cases, would allow the ring to retain it's original design and look without inflating the price tag. Cubic zircon was the favorite for such rings and cheaper rings still use this gemstone. These days more expensive substitutes like moissanite have been made by man. Moissanite is believed to posess all the chemical and physical properties that are present in a natural diamond but, the gemstone is infact made in a laboratory by man. You could also choose natural gems for your men's wedding ring. Natural gems like white topaz, danburite, white sapphire or natural white zircon could also be used as a diamond substitute. Of these gems, white sapphires would come the closest in hardness and durability to natural diamonds. If you are more interested in the external appearance of a man diamond wedding ring but are not very particular about having diamonds in the ring, consider a diamond substitute.
