How to make a Paper Plate Dove that Flies

This paper plate bird will be sure to make the perfect activity for your next picnic or summertime celebration. Kids of all ages will have a blast making their own flying dove. The paper plate dove will be a hit for children of all ages. Create your own one-of-a-kind flying bird with a few basic picnic supplies and an avid imagination.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper plates (the generic thin, white plates work best)
  • Small rock or pebble
  • Tape
  • Plastic spoons
  • Rubber bands
  • Markers or paints
  1. Step 1

    Color or decorate the paper plate first.

  2. Step 2

    Cut the paper plate evenly in half, then cut one half of the plate into three equal pieces.

  3. Step 3

    Tape one of the three cut sections to the half paper plate that is facing up. (this is the base of the bird).

  4. Step 4

    Place two plastic spoons together to create the head of your dove and place the pebble in the middle of the spoons. Bind the spoons together with a rubber band.

  5. Step 5

    Tape the spoons to the bottom of the paper plate and draw a bird face on top of the spoon.

  6. Step 6

    Make your dove fly by throwing it like a paper airplane. Adjust the pebble or rock size and weight in the bird’s head to improve flight.

Tips & Warnings
  • Test your bird by experimenting with different sizes of pebbles until you get the on that makes your bird soar.
  • When decorating the body of the bird make sure you use markers or crayons because paints or other decorating tools may add bulk or weight to you paper plate which can affect the flight of your bird.
  • Have bird flying contests at your next family reunion or neighborhood block party.
