Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Try working out with a friend, significant other or even your kids. Teaming up with someone you like can help keep you motivated. You will look forward to catching up and enjoying her company whether you are walking, running or taking an aerobics class together. If you can keep up the talk without getting winded while you work out, you'll know you are getting into great shape.
Step2
Explore ancient traditions. Some of the oldest forms of exercise provide a satisfying workout for both the body and spirit. Martial arts such as Tae Kwon Do are exciting and increase muscle strength, flexibility and stamina. Breaking a wooden board for the first time is thrilling and will make you feel that anything is possible. If you are looking for a slower martial art without contact, why not try Tai Chi or Qi Gong? You'll still get all of the benefits of martial arts with none of the risks. When looking into ancient traditions, don't forget yoga. It promotes a sense of inner peace and increases strength, flexibility and overall health. Yoga, Tai Chi and Qi Gong are safe to practice at any age.
Step3
Move to the music. It is human nature to respond to music and rhythm. If music makes you want to move, dancing may be the perfect way to get in shape. Whether you choose tap, hip hop, ballet, jazz, country line, ballroom or square dancing, when you dance to music you love, you'll have a great time getting into shape.
Step4
Enjoy nature. Being outdoors helps us to get in touch with the fact that we are part of nature ourselves. Enjoyable outdoor workouts include walking, running, horseback riding, swimming and team sports such as softball, volleyball or basketball.
Step5
Mix it up. It gets boring to do the same thing all the time. Cross training keeps things interesting and actually helps the body achieve better results. You can create your own routine, combining all your favorite forms of exercise.
Step6
Don't forget the mall. Even if you have never exercised before, you are probably comfortable making a trip to the mall. Mall walking has become a popular form of exercise in recent years. Large malls have miles of area for walking, and mall walking is a workout you can stick with in cold or wet weather. For added motivation, you can always buy yourself a little present at the end of each workout.
