Sujukakia is an old traditional Greek dish that maybe comes from the Turkish invasion period. This is a nice oriental twist.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • 1 cut chopped onions
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 kilo minced meat
  • 2 slices of bread (no crust)
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • curry powder
  • paprika powder
  • ground cumin
  • 1/4 cup cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • tomato puree
  • some wine
  • a knorr cube
  • a pinch of sugar

Step1
Chop the onion and dry it. Soak the bread until soft and then squeeze the exess the water. Stir the baking soda with the cream and some water and add the curry and paprika. Stir in the onions and the rest of the ingredients.
Step2
Add the mixture to the meat and mix together until they blend nicely (for 3'-5') Leave in the fridge for the mixture to bind. Afterwards shape small portions into cylinders, sprinkle flour on them and fry them.
Step3
Prepare the tomato sauce. Fry the onions in oil until white and add the knorr cube and some wine. Add the puree and a pinch of sugar, salt and pepper. When it boils, put the sujukakia in and let them boil for 5'.
