Capture the best moments!
Capture the best moments!

Taking great vacation photos isn't always about composition or "get me in front of the Eiffel Tower". Great vacation photos conjure up memories and feelings from when the photos were taken. Here are some tips on capturing the right moments.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A Great Camera
  • Quick timing!
  1. Step 1

Invest in a great camera. You don't need professional grade equipment to take personal photos, but if you plan on using the pictures for travel journalism, you might want to buy a basic pro camera and take a class. Most of us just need a point and shoot.

  2. Step 2

Once you have your camera---you must use it! Take it with you wherever you go to capture the most memories.

  3. Step 3

Look for moments that speak about the trip as a whole. Example: traffic in Mumbai India is frenetic and unnerving-- blurred shots of taxis whizzing by encapsulate that.

  4. Step 4

Think of ways you would like to display moments before you take photos. Maybe a collection of flower photos could be framed and put in your bathroom, or three blown up shots of ancient weaponry could go in your office. Be creative in your travel photos---the best souvenirs could be in your camera!

Tips & Warnings
  • Experiment with your angles and framing. Try exaggerated closeups of similar items to create a collection.
  • Take "unscripted" shots of your travel mates. Posed shots aren't as compelling.
  • Get permission before taking photos in a museum or historical site.
  • Don't worry about taking blurred or bad photos. Some of those are the best!
  • Be careful using your camera in wet conditions.
