Step 1
Jones Gap is located in the northern section of Greenville County. While it is only a few miles from a major metropolitan area, it is very scenic. The best way to get there is to take exit 44 off of Interstate 85 and follow signs for Travelers Rest. Once you get to Travelers Rest (T.R. to the locals) take a left on Highway 276. Then look for signs for Jones Gap.
-
Step 2
There are at least eight trails in Jones Gap that cover more than 60 miles in that park and others. It is mandatory to register with the visitors' center upon entering the trails.
-
Step 3
The trail distances range from .5 miles to 10 miles inside the park. The best trail, though, could be the Rim of the Gap. At 4.4 miles, it is not that long, but offers a good workout. One of the highlights is two large boulders that people try to squeeze through to in order to get to the other side.
-
Step 4
All of the trails have numerous water crossings so feel free to dip you feet in at times.
