Old fashioned coin gum ball machines can be purchased at many stores and they make a great addition to any home with children. You can use it to help them learn about good deeds, rewards, savings and much more.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

You can purchase the old fashioned gum ball machines at many retailers. You can also purchase one online, I have provided a link below to a site that sells them in various sizes, styles, and price ranges.

  2. Step 2

Once you have your machine at your home and assembled you can know fill it with your choice of treat. You can use gum balls, Jellybeans, Peanuts, M&Ms and Skittles.

  3. Step 3

Decide how you want to use your machine with your children and then explain it to them. You can use it for potty training and each time they successfully use the potty they can get a treat. You can use it to reward good deeds that are caught or noticed. You can use it to reinforce good behavior.

Whatever you choice to use it for make sure that your children understand it's purpose. Let them decide what they would like to do with the money in the machine once they have emptied the candy out.

  4. Step 4

You can take money to the bank and exchange it for rolled coins so that you have change to reward behavior with. You will also be in control of how much gets put in the machine that way too, by choosing to use pennies, dimes, nickels, or quarters.

Hide the money so that kids do not have access to it unless they are rewarded.

  5. Step 5

Be consistent with the machine. You will find that kids are excited to earn this unique reward and work harder to do so.

When the machine is empty or the goal is reached (like potty training), then empty the money out and go and enjoy the reward of your hard work as a family.
