How to cure hiccups in five easy steps

My husband suffers from uncontrollable hiccups. None of the "remedies" seemed to work for him. I mentioned this one day to the bartender in the restaurant where I was a chef and he gave me a surefire way to cure them.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 1 8oz. glass of water
  • 1 person with hiccups
  • A comfortable chair

Step1
Fill an 8oz. glass with cool (not cold water).
Step2
Have the person sit in a comfortable straight back chair.
Step3
Stand behind the person and firmly yet gently press the forefinger and middle finger of both your hands against both his ears, effectively closing them.
Step4
Have the person slowly drink the water without stopping until the glass is empty.
Step5
Remove your fingers from his ears. The hiccups should be gone.

Tips & Warnings

  • Have the person be as relaxed as possible. Your touch should be firm but not uncomfortable or painful for the person.
  • Hiccups are fairly common, but if the person exhibits any chest pain or shortness of breath, call a doctor.
