Take great pride and effort in writing your grant proposal, this is usually what makes or breaks the grant. It is best to involve several drafts in which you seek help, critique and in which you are willing to take feedback to improve your presentation. Here are a few things to think about when preparing your proposal.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer
  • Printer
  • Paper and ink.
  • Couple of hours.

Step1
Apply to the Right Funding Source: Make sure the grant your applying for will meet your needs.
Step2
Check For Proposal Requirements: Do not waste your time applying for a grant where you do not meet there qualifications.
Step3
Make your grant stand out from the others: If you are going to take the time to write a grant, do it well. Do all the research that is necessary for your success.
Step4
Proof read: Make sure your Grant proposal makes sense, do not waste your time by turning in by turning in a unresearched report filled with errors.
Step5
Be Practical and Realistic: Make sure when asking for a specific amount of money that you are able to support the needs for such reward. Requesting to little or to much will make you look unprofessional.
Step6
Let someone else look over your work. Don't be shy, sometimes it simply takes another person to catch the errors.
Step7
Be neat: Report should always be typed and collated accordingly.
Step8
Personalize: Make sure you put your handwritten signature on the last page of the proposal. This looks more thoughtful and planned out.
A cover letter should always accompany a proposal. Standard U.S. Postal Service requirements apply unless otherwise indicated by the Federal agency. Make sure there is enough time for the proposals to reach their destinations. Otherwise, special arrangements may be necessary.

on 3/7/2008 These are good suggestions. I've done grant writing and it's important to write simply and plainly. Too convoluted writing puts off the grant readers. Make it easy for someone unfamiliar with the project to understand what you are trying to do.

on 5/15/2008 I've been reading thru all your articles for grants. I've looked for awhile and most sites want your money first, and then scam you. Thanks for the good information!
