Things You'll Need:
- Large kid's parachute, at least 20 feet in diameter
- A group of children
- Open area with padded floor or outside in soft grass
- Comfortable clothing
-
Step 1
Spread out the parachute and have each child pick a spot on the perimeter. Each should sit down with legs outstretched underneath the parachute. Explain that the parachute is the surface of the water, and the children will be shaking the parachute to make "waves" that hide the "shark."
-
Step 2
Choose your "shark." Explain the shark will crawl underneath the parachute, waiting to select a "victim." The "shark" will creep over and hold the "victim" by his ankles and drag him underneath the parachute.
-
Step 3
Choose your "lifeguard." The "lifeguard" will not sit down with the group but will patrol the outside of the circle, watching and waiting for a sign of distress. When the "lifeguard" sees someone getting pulled under, she runs over and tries to save the "victim" by grabbing his hands before they disappear under the "waves."
-
Step 4
If the "lifeguard" grabs the "victim" then the "shark" must let go. It's not a tug-of-war. If the "victim" is pulled under, the "shark" wins. If the "lifeguard" reaches the "victim," the "lifeguard" wins.
-
Step 5
Take turns so that everyone has a chance to play both parts if possible.
