Celebrating your nuptials? Got the urge to go medieval? Live it up on your honeymoon like it's 1499.

From Quick Guide: Introduction to Honeymoons
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A month
  • Well-wishers
  • Castle
  • Various meats
  • Mead
  • Beer/Ale
  1. Step 1

Secure a castle for a month. The traditional length of time for a honeymoon during the Middle Ages was a month, perhaps to allow for a full cycle for procreation. A castle is where any respectable medieval couple would honeymoon.

  2. Step 2

Get married, preferable while surrounded by well-wishers.

  3. Step 3

Have well-wishers escort you and your new spouse to the honeymoon quarters. According to historical records, the party should lead the bride and groom all the way to the door of the bedroom.

  4. Step 4

    Consummate marriage. Repeat as necessary.

  5. Step 5

Imbibe alcohol. The medieval tradition was to drink one glass of mead, which is honey wine, for every day of the honeymoon. Also, you should expect to drink a fair amount of beer and ale every day, since the drinking water during the Middle Ages was of such poor quality that most liquid was taken in the form of libations.

  6. Step 6

Consume copious amounts of meat, including but not limited to steak, pork, chicken, lamb, veal, turkey and wild game. The more kinds of meat on hand, the more obvious it will be to your new spouse that you have a ton of money and will live a prosperous life together.

Tips & Warnings
  • To really be authentic, try shunning electricity and indoor plumbing.
  • Personal hygiene during the Middle Ages wasn't what we're used to in modern times. Prepare to deal with some unpleasant odors.
