Located in the northwest corner of the state, the park is one of the reasons the Upstate region is becoming known as a good place to hike. One of the best things about this park is that it is relatively new to young hikers, just beginning to grow in popularity. So, gear up and enjoy this gem soon!

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Camping gear
  • Snacks
  • Food
  • Water
Step1
Obtain a map showing the terrain and makeup of the park. There are two main trails at Devils Fork. Both are considered mildly difficult.
Step2
The first is the Oconee Bell Nature Trail. It goes roughly 1.5 miles in a loop that crosses a mostly pine forest. The trail gets in name from a tiny white flower, the Oconee Bell, that grows along the trail.
Step3
The second trail is a little more strenuous. It covers 3.5 miles and has the less glorious name: the Hiking Trail. This trail offers some of the best view of Lake Jocassee that makes up most of the park.
Step4
If you want to see the lake even better, rent a canoe or kayak to explore the rest of the scenic lake.

Tips & Warnings

  • There are numerous cabins in the park in case you want to spend the night.
