How to clean and restore shine to a dull and dingy fiberglass bathtub.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Soft abrasive cleaner
  • Scouring pad
  • Car wax
  • Sponge or rag
  1. Step 1

The first thing you will need to do is thoroughly clean your bathtub. To prevent scratching, a soft abrasive cleaner such as Soft Scrub with Bleach works best. Using a mild scouring pad and your soft abrasive cleaner, scrub your entire bathtub well. Make sure and thoroughly rinse all of the cleaner out of the tub.

  2. Step 2

Using a clean towel, dry your bathtub, making sure to remove all water from the bottom and sides of the tub.

  3. Step 3

Following the instructions on the car wax bottle, apply the wax to your bathtub. For safety issues, you should not apply the wax to the bottom of the tub. Apply the wax evenly to the sides and lip of the bathtub. Buff wax or remove as per the instructions on the bottle.

Tips & Warnings
  • To help draw attention away from the unwaxed bottom, use a nice shower mat, or non-slip adhesive pads.
  • After showering or bathing, dry the inside of the tub to help retain shine.
  • If you have sliding shower doors, you can also apply car wax to the door runner, to help doors open and close more smoothly.
  • Waxing your tub can cause the bottom of the tub to become extremely slippery. To avoid safety hazards, never wax the bottom of your tub, and use a shower mat or non-slip adhesive pads.
  • Though most cars are made from fiberglass and most car waxes are fiberglass safe, make sure to read the bottle to be certain the wax you choose is suitable to use on fiberglass.
