A valuable tool for quilters is the flannel board design wall. This allows the quilter to see how the finished quilt will look. Prior to final assembly the pieces can be moved about freely and several options can be tested. These are a staple of the quilting shows on the television networks and having one is not expensive or time consuming. In fact, it will take less than an hour to put together.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Queen sized flannel sheet in a light neutral color
  • Queen size quilt batt in low loft polyester fiber
  • Staple gun
  • Square or plumb line
  1. Step 1

    Launder new sheet.

  2. Step 2

Using a square or plumb line draw a straight line on the wall on one side of the proposed area.

  3. Step 3

Staple the low loft batt to the wall every 18 to 24 inches. This will hold it in place.

  4. Step 4

Work from one corner to place the sheet along the line you have drawn on the wall keeping it straight and staple it along that line.

  5. Step 5

Staple across the top of the sheet pulling it straight and taut as you go.

  6. Step 6

    Staple down the remaining side.

  7. Step 7

Smooth any wrinkles and finish by stapling across the bottom. Your new flannel wall is ready to use.

Tips & Warnings
  • Laundering the sheet will remove any packaging wrinkles and fabric finish.
  • To clean the wall vacuum lightly.
  • Choose a light color so that the quilt pieces can be easily seen.
  • A helper and small step ladder will also make this project much easier.
