Moving one's precious china can be quite unnerving. Simple precautions can make sure those precious pieces arrive in their new home undamaged.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sturdy cartons - medium sized dishpack from a container or moving materials store
  • Newsprint sheets
  • Bubble wrap
  • Tape
  • Marker
  1. Step 1

Group the articles to be packed by size.

  2. Step 2

Put a layer of two or three sheets of newsprint on the surface before you. Please one plate in the corner. Now wrap one side over it and add a second plate. Repeat the process until you have a stack of four plates.

  3. Step 3

Wrap the entire packet in two or three additional sheets and tape with a small bit of tape.

  4. Step 4

Cover the bottom of your carton with two layers of bubble wrap. Stand plates on edge in the carton.

  5. Step 5

Make sure to fill any spaces with crumpled paper. The tighter the packing, the safer it will be.

  6. Step 6

Repeat these steps for dinner plates, salad plates, dessert plates, saucers and bowls. Then wrap cups in the same manner. Wrap serving pieces individually and place smaller pieces wrapped within larger ones.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not make boxes too heavy but do pack them so that there are several pieces together.
  • It is vital when packing to make sure every space is filled with paper and solidly packed. Movement is the single greatest cause of damage.
