Things You'll Need:
- Computer
- Dial-up Internet
- Internal dial-up modem card

Step 1
Control PanelGo to your Start menu, then go to the Control Panel on the right hand side of your computer screen to begin to turn off modem sound. There is a photo of it displayed here.

Phone and modem optionsDouble click the (sound) Phone and Modems Options Choice in the control panel screen. Windows options are usually listed in alphabetical order on this screen, although the view may vary slightly in different versions of Microsoft Windows.

Step 3
Phone and modems options screenClick the Modems tab, on the second choice from the left in the dialog box on your screen. Your modem brand will be displayed. Inside of that screen, click the Properties button. This takes you closer to sound turn off. There is a photo of sound options here.

Step 4
Slide the button all the way to the left underneath the "Volume" option in the modem options screen. Note: click "OK" while in phone and modems screen to save your new sound settings which should now be turned off.

Step 5
Return to your desktop inside of Windows. If you want to set it, disconnect your phone Internet connection and restart it. You should not hear any modem connection sound, as you have turned it off.
