How to Make a Hot Toddy Cocktail

A hot toddy is believed to be Scottish in origin, and is known as the go-to cocktail for relief from a cold or the flu. Supposedly if you are feeling run down and take a nip before bed, you will get a good night's rest. There are many variations on the recipe, but the three main ingredients are alcohol, sweetener and a hot beverage.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 oz. honey
  • 1/3 oz. lemon juice
  • 3 oz. hot water
  • 1 1/2 oz. whiskey

    Make a Hot Toddy With Brandy

  1. Step 1

    Brew the tea with boiling water, discard the tea bag, and fill a glass three-fourths full with the brew.

  2. Step 2

    Stir in the honey until it is dissolved.

  3. Step 3

    Mix in two brandy shots.

  4. Step 4

    Add a lemon slice to the hot toddy glass as a garnish. This recipe works best on colds when served hot.

    Pour the honey and lemon juice into the hot water.

  7. Step 2

    Stir until the ingredients are dissolved, and allow to cool slightly.

    Add the whiskey and stir the hot toddy well.

    Serve hot.

Tips & Warnings
  • An easy way to make this recipe is to combine the honey and lemon juice, and heat in the microwave for 30 seconds. Add the hot water and whiskey, and stir until combined.
  • Only drink a hot toddy to ease cold symptoms if you are over 21 years old. Do not give this drink to children.
