Wedding updos are the most popular way for brides to do their hair. The style looks beautiful with a veil, tiara or any other headpiece you're wearing. Curly hair is especially pretty in an updo. In fact, many brides with straight hair end up curling it on their wedding day. Curly hair tends to comply a little bit easier with updos because it's not as slippery as straight hair.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Comb or brush
  • Hot rollers
  • Curling iron
  • Hairspray
  • Rubber band or elastic
  • Bobby pins
  1. Step 1

Make sure your hair is dry. Spray it with hairspray and allow it to dry.

  2. Step 2

Use hot rollers or a curling iron to refine your curls. This is especially important if you're hair leans toward frizzy. Go over all your curls to make sure they look good.

  3. Step 3

Gather your hair into a ponytail. It can be at the nape of your neck, middle of your head or higher up, depending on where you want your updo to sit. Secure it tightly with a coated rubber band or elastic.

  4. Step 4

Take a curl that's close to the hair elastic in your hand. Working with the natural direction of the curl, place it where you want it on the outside of the ponytail. Pin it into place by pushing a bobby pin into the curl.

  5. Step 5

Continue to pin curls around the ponytail. Choose hair from the outside of the pony tail, not the inside pieces. Securely pin the curls into place around your head. You should have curls placed in a circle shape around the pony tail.

  6. Step 6

Focus on the inside hair now. Gather the curls, making sure to work with the natural direction of it. Place the hair on top of the bun to disguise the pony tail holder and make the updo look complete.

  7. Step 7

Pin all remaining curls in place. Use several bobby pins if necessary. It's essential that your hair stays in place during your entire wedding ceremony and reception. Spray it thoroughly with hairspray.

Tips & Warnings
  • Newly washed hair is slippery, so it's a good idea not to wash it on your wedding day.
  • Make sure the bobby pins aren't noticeable.
