Vertical wall hangings are a good way to fill space in high-ceiling rooms, or to make shorter rooms seem taller. Hang your artwork as you would stack similar items together to create a vertical arrangement on the wall.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Gather your wall hangings together. Group them into categories by either subject matter or color.

  2. Step 2

Place them on the floor in the way you want them to appear on the wall. This is a great way to visualize and rearrange the items to achieve the look you like the best.

  3. Step 3

Consider mixed styles. Vertical arrangements are a good way to hang things like shelves with pictures above them. This is particularly effective when showcasing a specific artist when you collect plates or figurines in addition to your art collection.

  4. Step 4

Hang items of the same size by placing the middle piece at eye level, then spacing the others evenly above and below.

  5. Step 5

Start with the largest piece when working with art of various sizes. The largest hanging should be placed highest and the rest should follow according to size.

  6. Step 6

Experiment by placing the largest piece at eye level and working in both directions by placing the next largest and so forth until all of the pieces you've chosen are hung.

  7. Step 7

Keep equal distance between all the pieces of your art work to create a polished look.

Tips & Warnings
  • Group items together in odd numbers as this is more pleasing to the eye.
