Nestle toll house cookies have been around since 1939 when a woman named Ruth Wakefield experimented with her cookies and added Nestle chocolate morsels to her recipe. There are many ways to make chocolate chip cookies, but only one way to make a good tollhouse cookie. Use these helpful hints and tips to make your cookie the one everyone wants the recipe for.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Mix each wet ingredient into the bowl one at a time. Don't add them all together and mix. The ingredients each get thoroughly mixed in using this method.

  2. Step 2

Use real butter instead of margarine. You will definitely be able to tell the difference. Margarine contains hydrogenated fats while butter is a natural product and doesn't have these fats. Butter melts differently and the outcome is much different than using margarine.

  3. Step 3

Melt the butter in the microwave instead of letting it sit out to soften. Melted butter mixes in better with the other ingredients. Keep close watch on the melting butter to prevent burning.

  4. Step 4

Add chopped bits of candy. Skor and Heath bars are common ingredients used. Reese's butterscotch chips can also be added along with oatmeal. Experiment with various candy until you find one you like.

  5. Step 5

Chill the dough for a minimum of 4 hours before you put it on the cookie sheet to prevent your cookies from coming out flat.

  6. Step 6

Try using a small ice cream scooper to drop your cookies onto the baking sheet. They will come out consistently the same size and it's not as messy.
