How to Do The Shuffle Hop Move in Tap Dance

The shuffle hop step is a basic move in tap dancing. Shuffle hop steps are used throughout tap dance routines, whether the routine is basic or advanced. Master this move before moving on to more difficult tap dance steps. Travel easily across the dance floor with shuffle hop steps once you feel comfortable with this move.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tap shoes
  • Hard surfaced floor
  • Floor length mirror
  1. Step 1

    Place your feet so they are just narrower than shoulder width apart. Point your toes directly in front of you. Put your hands on your hips.

  2. Step 2

    Start with your right foot. Swing your foot forward, making contact with the ground with your front tap. Do not touch your heel tap to the floor.

  3. Step 3

    Slide your foot backwards, making floor contact with your toe tap once more.

  4. Step 4

    Bend your knee to keep your right foot raised just off the floor. Hop one time on your left foot. Place your right foot on the floor.

  5. Step 5

    Shift your left foot forward, making contact with the toe tap. Do not touch your heel tap of the left foot to the floor.

  6. Step 6

    Move your left foot back, and make contact on the floor with your left toe tap one more time. Keep your knee bent, and hop one time on the right foot.

  7. Step 7

    Place your left foot on the floor. Repeat these moves. Practice until you can quickly execute the move without thinking about it.
