The Korean martial art tang soo do has become one of the most widely practiced martial arts in the United States. Taught as a fitness method and competitive sport, tang soo do is unique from other martial arts in that it's focus is on self-defense rather than combat technique. The tang soo do jump spinning hook kick is an advanced move that you can begin practicing today.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin in the basic tang soo do fighting stance, or the four-point stance. Stand with your feet about shoulder width apart with your dominant leg behind you. Place your hands up in defense position. Bend your knees a bit further then normal to give you momentum to push up into the jump spinning hook kick.

  2. Step 2

Squat down slightly and then lift and jump, turning to your right. As you spin and reach the height of your jump, extend your back leg and perform the tang soo do hook kick.

  3. Step 3

Perform a hook kick by bending your knee up with your heel facing your target. Push your leg straight out with your heel and then hook your leg back and around, returning to the bent knee position. The motions of the hook kick will help you with your spinning as you jump.

  4. Step 4

Practice landing so that you end up falling gently into your fighting stance, prepared to begin a second jump spinning hook kick. Begin your practice with an imaginary target, only kicking the air. As you gain control in this advanced tang soo do move, you can add a target to begin working on precision.
