Step 1
Stand with most of your weight on the balls of your foot rather than your heels. Especially if you are wearing high heeled shoes, it's easiest to do the quick motions of swing dancing when on your toes.
-
Step 2
Take a step out to the right with your right foot. Do a triple step to the right by stepping out, bringing your left foot out to meet the right foot, and then stepping out once more with your right foot. Count this step 1-2-3, or "triple step."
-
Step 3
Repeat the triple step to your left. The first step is simply shifting your weight to your left foot. Then follow by bringing your right foot back to meet your left foot, and then stepping out once more with your left foot. Count this step 4-5-6, or "triple step" also.
-
Step 4
Complete the 7 and 8 counts by stepping backward with your right foot to do a rock step. You'll step behind you with the right foot and shift your weight onto the right foot, and then on the 8 count you shift your weight back forward to the left foot, leaving the right foot behind you and moving straight into the next set of triple steps.
-
Step 5
Allow your partner to guide you while doing the footwork. Don't concentrate solely on your feet--make sure you have an adequate amount of tension in your arms to allow your partner to indicate turns or spins once you've learned some more advanced lessons.
