Gaining access to your strut mounts is essential to the replacement or other work on the strut mounts and other components in the vicinity. There are generally two different ways to access them, varying according to vehicle, and it can be done by just about anyone, no matter their skill level.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide how you will access the strut mounts. There are two main ways to do this: through the trunk or under the hood. Under the hood is the easiest method. You simply pop the hood and they are right on top. To access the strut mounts through the trunk, follow these steps.

  2. Step 2

Tilt the back seats forward, if this is an option in your vehicle. Remove the trunk interior pieces and the inner fender well components. Make sure to put any screws or bolts in a safe place and next to the interior piece where they belong so you don't confuse them during re-installation.

  3. Step 3

Climb into the trunk and look for the suspension tower. If you are not sure what this looks like, consult your vehicle repair manual. Once you have located the strut mount, you can move on to the next phase of your repair project.

  4. Step 4

Note where the strut mounts are located for future access. This will save you the hassle of disassembling the entire trunk interior, when there may be only a couple of pieces you need to remove to gain access to the strut mounts.
