The rug doctor is a carpet steam cleaner with simple parts and is user friendly. You can buy one from the manufacturer or rent one at many major retailers. You can rent a regular or wide track model depending on how much floor you need to cover, and you can buy cleaning products that work specifically with the rug doctor to get the best result.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Identify the handle and handle release below and to the right of the top of the handle. The handle release enables the handle to pitch at an angle. Use the handle release to adjust the machine to a comfortable height.

  2. Step 2

Locate the on and off switch. There are three settings. The middle setting is off, whereas the setting toward the front of the unit is for floor cleaning, and the setting toward the back of the unit is for using the hose attachment for upholstery cleaning.

  3. Step 3

Look for the top tank. Depending on the unit, it will be white and will have a handle that comes up to secure the clear dome in place to create a seal. This is the dirty water tank and is removable which makes for easy cleaning.

  4. Step 4

Find the lower clean water tank. Clean water with Rug Doctor cleaning solution is added to this tank for floor and upholstery cleaning.

  5. Step 5

Inspect the rug doctor unit before you rent one to make sure everything is in proper working order. If anything appears to be cracked, loose, or in poor condition, choose a different model or go somewhere else to rent a rug doctor carpet cleaner unit.
