When you're performing on stage, making the audience feel a connection with you is one of the most important aspects in having a good stage performance. If the audience doesn't connect with you, it won't matter how good a musician you are or how well you sing or dance. A good performer knows how to connect with her audience through proper eye contact.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Keep your eyes on the audience while you are performing. Try to keep from closing your eyes or looking down, as you want the audience to feel a connection with you.

  2. Step 2

Look at the audience members' foreheads. You don't want to look directly into anyone's eyes, as it gets you too engaged and focused on them and less on your performance.

  3. Step 3

Move your gaze throughout your performance. Slowly move your eyes from side to side. Don't move them in a pattern; rather move your eyes around so that the audience can see your gaze moving around the whole audience.

  4. Step 4

Smile at the audience. This can go a long way toward making the audience feel like you are connecting with them and also improve your confidence on stage.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use these techniques while you're practicing so you feel more comfortable doing it on stage. If you have a habit of looking at your instrument while you're playing it, be sure to break yourself of this habit through practice for on stage performance.
