How to Modify a Sport Bike

You may already love your sportbike, but doing a few modifications not only helps to make the sportbike your own but also takes the machine closer to its racing potential.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Change your muffler to drop 6 or 7 pounds off the sportbike, help keep the bike in better shape and even squeeze some more horsepower out of the machine. Check out carbon fiber mufflers from companies like Muzzy's to do a fast and relatively inexpensive modification that makes a big difference.

  2. Step 2

Modify or change out your back wheel suspension on the bike to trade the stock suspension in for something tighter and stronger that can keep the back wheel on the ground over bumps at speed and through tight turns. If you don't want to invest in a new suspension then take the bike to a sportbike mechanic to tighten or loosen its suspension according to need.

  3. Step 3

Consider new brake lines to replace the stock rubber lines with steel lines that preserve 100 percent of the power you put into the break pull.

  4. Step 4

Add some frame sliders to help protect you and the bike a little better in case you fall on the bike. Check with your bike maker to see what frame sliders they recommend and if a direct or in-direct fitting is best for your sportbike modification.

  5. Step 5

Do some cosmetic modification with new body work (including a custom paint job), LED lights and a specialized windscreen.
