Soccer is a sport that contains many crowd-pleasing shots and moves. Most require great skill and dexterity to complete. The spin shot however is easy to learn and the curving of the shot makes it look as though the soccer ball were defying the laws of physics as it curves past the goalie for a score.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Approach the soccer ball at full to half speed depending on the position of the defender. Step forward with the non-shooting leg and keep the shooting leg back away from the ball.

  2. Step 2

Plant the non-kicking leg firmly beside the soccer ball. The plant leg is important because if the leg slips then the spin shot will not work correctly.

  3. Step 3

Point the toes of the kicking leg downward and lock the ankle. The shaping of the foot on the spin shot is important because it helps determine how much spin the shot will have.

  4. Step 4

Strike the soccer ball at an angle and on the outside of the soccer ball. Be sure to strike the soccer ball with the foot and not the toe. The angle can be anywhere from 35 to 60 degrees depending on the amount of spin the shooter requires. The greater the angle, the more spin the shot possesses.

  5. Step 5

Keep the head down and rotate the upper body through the shot. Do not rotate the upper body too quickly or it will throw off the timing of the spin shot.

  6. Step 6

Follow through with the shooting leg until the leg extends fully. The soccer ball should then curve away from the shooter.
