Step 1
Find a place to go downhill skiing that has runs of varied difficulty. Ensure the resort has enough beginning and intermediate slopes to keep you interested.

Step 2
Dress properly and use the right equipment. Wear warm layers with good gloves, a hat and a scarf. When renting equipment tell them you are a beginner skier and have them recommend the appropriate boots, skis and poles.
-
Step 3
Register for a class and arrive on time. This is the best way to learn to ski. Most ski resorts have certified instructors that can guide you through the learning process.
-
Step 4
Learn the basics of skiing. This includes the proper stance, on which foot to put your weight, how to turn and how to stop. Your instructor will guide you through all of these techniques.
-
Step 5
Practice the basic techniques. To become a proficient skier, you must get to the slopes as often as you can. Once you have the basics down, you will enjoy the sport even more.
-
Step 6
Continue to take classes. There are intermediate and advanced classes that teach different techniques and refine the ones you've already learned. This is a great opportunity to improve your skills.
