Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Putter
  • Golf ball
  1. Step 1

Grip the putter lightly, keeping your hands placed firmly on the club to allow little movement.

  2. Step 2

Start your stroke with your putter already off the ground. Instead of starting the backstroke with the head on the ground. Concentrate on feeling the weight of the putter.

  3. Step 3

Swing with a pendulum motion. Focus on using exactly the same movement from back to front. Keep the putter straight at all times. Stay on the target line.

  4. Step 4

Follow through the ball. Swing the club through the ball to push it to the hole.

  5. Step 5

Keep your head still when completing the stroke. Movement from your head can lead to a shift in your shoulders, arms or wrists that impacts the putt.

  6. Step 6

Practice your putting stroke using a straight shot. Make sure there are no breaks in the green to worry about and concentrate on the stroke itself.

Tips & Warnings
  • Mark your ball with a straight line, or pick it up from the green. Set it back down to line up the lettering straight with the hole. Then line your putter up, aiming straight through the words to the hole.
  • Carpet works fine, you don't need a good practice green to work on putting at home.
