How to Use Punching Techniques for Self Defense
Punching is the fastest and most reliable way of attacking an aggressor so you can deliver enough of a damaging blow to get away. Because the hands have a number of small and easily broken bones in them, it's important to use proper punching technique in self defense situations so that you injure the aggressor rather than yourself.

1
Get your stance established by taking one step away from your planted foot and keeping your upper body squared towards your aggressor or slightly angled back to minimize attackable surface area on your body.
-
2
Identify a weak or open spot on your aggressor's body, paying special attention to the nose, throat and eyes. Go for the most sensitive of the open or weak spots. If the attacker is well guarded, just drive for a strong attack that forces him to block and gives you time to escape.

Use the open palm punching technique by opening your hand and driving forward from your shoulders to strike your opponent with the base of your palm. Swing your shoulders forward and even take a step forward with the foot on the same side as your punching hand to leverage more power into your punch.

4
Take advantage of an unguarded nose by making a tight fist with your thumb on the outside and coming down onto the bring of your opponent's nose with the side of your fist to use the hammer technique.
