Pole dancing has increasingly become more popular as a form of exercise and a new way of approaching dance. In recent years, pole dancing has moved from clubs to the home and is being embraced by the average American. You don't have to spend money on an instructional video. Just follow these simple steps to help create your own exciting pole dancing routine.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin by establishing a place to practice your pole dancing routines. Look online for retractable poles that can be purchased and placed in the home for an easy way to access a dancing pole.

  2. Step 2

Find comfortable clothing to wear while practicing the pole dancing routine. Do some basic stretches to help prepare you for the various poses that you will perform during your routine.

  3. Step 3

Search for music that is sexy and has a moderate beat to use for creating your routine. "319" by Prince is a good choice.

  4. Step 4

Practice basic fundamental moves with your pole such as walking around the pole, holding the pole toward the center while making your way around the pole, and the basic spin, which uses one of your arms as a fulcrum while you swing your body around the pole quickly.

  5. Step 5

Integrate leg wrapping around the pole by walking around the pole and wrapping one leg around and arching your back to in essence hang from the pole with one hand and one leg. Think of your pole as a person for whom you are doing a dance, and structure your dance in this way.

  6. Step 6

Try climbing up the pole and sliding down in the splits. Work with stretching your body around the pole as you would in a yoga routine using the pole as a center point for your stretching.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check your local gym for available pole dancing classes.
  • Visit a local exotic dancing club to see how professionals utilize the pole and for ideas in structuring your routine.
  • Do not apply too much lotion or oil, as this can call slippage during your routine and make the pole more dangerous. It might create a slippery grip which could cause injury.
