Pipe cleaners are a very versatile supply used in children's craft projects. Most pipe cleaners are 12 inches in length. Craft projects that are more intricate in design generally require several different lengths of pipe cleaners. Bend and trim pipe cleaners easily to get the correct sizes needed for any craft project.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fingernail clippers
  • Craft scissors
  • Wire cutters
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Permanent marker
  1. Step 1

Determine the lengths of pipe cleaner you need and what colors of pipe cleaner each length needs to be. Write the measurements and colors down on a piece of paper in order to keep track of the pieces.

  2. Step 2

Measure each pipe cleaner with a ruler. Mark the correct measurements on the pipe cleaners with a permanent marker. Mark all of the measurements before beginning to shorten the pipe cleaners.

  3. Step 3

Break the wire in pipe cleaners when you have no cutting tools available. Bend the pipe cleaner back and forth on the marked spot several times. Continue to bend the pipe cleaner until the wire is weak enough to snap in half. Repeat this for all pieces of the pipe cleaners.

  4. Step 4

Use an old pair of fingernail clippers to quickly and easily cut pipe cleaners for your craft. Simply clamp the clippers down on each measurement mark to cut the wire. Use old clippers or clippers that you don't mind dulling.

  5. Step 5

Utilize multi purpose or craft scissors for cutting when you do not have fingernail clippers. Cut the pipe cleaners on each measurement marking. Use scissors that can be dulled.

  6. Step 6

Choose wire cutters for the easiest way to cut pipe cleaners. Cut each pipe cleaner at the desired points.
