How to Cut the Gimp Design Fabric in Decorative Pillow Making

When sewing a decorative pillow, gimp is the trim that is used to cover the raw edges of your fabric. It adds color and class to your design and can be used to match the pillow to the rest of your decor. Gimp provides a nice finishing touch for your pillow.

Things You’ll Need:

• Gimp design fabric trim
• Measuring tape
• Sewing scissors

1. Choose your gimp design fabric trim. This trim should coordinate with the decorative pillow you are sewing, either matching or complementing both the pillow and your decor.
2. Measure the length and width the fabric pieces of your decorative pillow. You should have the front and back pillow pieces cut out and ready to sew at this point.
3. Lay the gimp design fabric trim out on a hard work surface. Carefully smooth it so it lays straight and flat.
4. Add 1 inch to the measured length of your decorative pillow. Measure and cut six strips of gimp to decorate your pillow.

• If you are using decorative fabric to make your own gimp, cut your strips 1 inch wide. This will allow you to fold them in half and sew 1/2-inch wide gimp strips to complete your decorative pillow.
• Be sure to measure very carefully. You do not want to end up with pieces of gimp design fabric that are too short to cover your pillow edges.
