Pasta is a staple in many pantries and has become part of many family's traditions. When you select pasta, you should think about the sauce or other ingredients you want to serve it with. A homemade alfredo sauce deserves a good pasta to show it off.

Things You'll Need:

  • Pasta
  • Alfredo sauce
  1. Step 1

Use fettuccine pasta, the most commonly used pasta with Alfredo sauce. Wider than spaghetti, it's an easy-to-eat pasta that holds creamy sauces well. Generally, any ribbon-like pasta work better with cream sauces.

  2. Step 2

Choose linguine if fettuccine is not available. Linguine is a little bit thinner than fettuccine, so each bite may have a more intense sauce flavor.

  3. Step 3

Consider using stuffed shells, such as tortellini or ravioli, to bend tradition. Although alfredo sauce is usually served with noodles, it makes a sophisticated sauce for cheese-stuffed shells.

  4. Step 4

Expect to find a wide variety of pastas. Pasta comes in various shapes and colors, some containing vegetable powder or even squid ink. Experiment with some of the more unusual pasta to see what best shows off your homemade alfredo sauce.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't overcook the pasta. Any pasta that's overcooked becomes starchy and contains an unpleasant texture. If you do accidentally overcook the pasta, consider making a casserole instead.
