Step 1
Ask your assistant to stand facing you with his right hand extended as though he wants to shake your hand. His fingers should be spread apart comfortably.
-
Step 2
Pick up a short length of rope, approximately 2 feet long and 3/4 inch thick.
-
Step 3
Drape the rope over your assistant's pinky finger. Push it back as far as you can so that it's touching the spot where his pinky and ring finger meet.
-
Step 4
Take the piece of the rope that's on the palm side of your assistant's hand with your left hand. Take the piece of rope that's on the back side of your assistant's hand with your right hand. After you've picked up both ends and pulled them taut, the rope will cross right below your assistant's pinky.
-
Step 5
Make sure you position the rope correctly to avoid hurting your assistant. The end of the rope that you're holding with your right hand should be in front of the other end as the two pieces cross one another. In other words, the end of the rope that begins on the back side of your assistant's hand needs to be closer to the tip of his finger than the other end of the rope.
-
Step 6
Pull both ends of the rope as quickly as possible. The rope will slide down and off your assistant's pinky finger. However, to the casual observer it will appear as though the rope magically penetrated through his finger.
-
Step 7
Ask your assistant to stay relaxed before you begin the penetrating pinky illusion. It's important that he keeps his fingers loose throughout the trick for it to work properly.
