Coin magic tricks begin with the type of coin you use to perform the trick. You need to use a coin that is easy for the audience to see and one that best suits the size of your hands.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose a coin that you can fit easily in the palm of your hand. If you have large hands, try using a silver-dollar coin. If you have smaller hands, a Kennedy half-dollar or even a quarter may work best for you.

  2. Step 2

Select silver coins rather than newer copper and nickel coins. Silver coins are heavier and will be easier to maneuver from hand to hand, as you'll need to be able to perform coin magic tricks in a fluid motion.

  3. Step 3

Consider using foreign coins if you have a hard time finding United States minted coins that work for you. Foreign coins can also be a good avenue if you are going to do a trick with more than one coin and you need coins that look different from each other.

  4. Step 4

Practice tricks with many different coins until you find the ones that work best for you.

Tips & Warnings
  • Visit a coin store and practice holding many different coins. Coin stores have a lot of options beyond the standard coins that you can find in change. These specialty shops will also have many of the older silver coins, such as the walking liberty half-dollars that are good for coin magic.
